STARKVILLE – Mississippi State shooting guard Craig Sword was named SEC Co-Player of the Week along with Florida’s Casey Prather.

Sword averaged 18 points and five rebounds in wins over Jackson State and Loyola as well as scoring the winning baskets in each contest.

The 6-foot-3, 193-pound sophomore from Montgomery, Ala., was held scoreless in the first half Wednesday against Jackson State but responded with 12 points in the second for a 58-56 victory.

Sword scored 24 points Sunday in a 65-64 overtime win over Loyola finishing one point shy of his career high. He scored five of the Bulldogs nine points in overtime.

Sword earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors twice last season and was named to the SEC All-Freshman team. He has started all six games this year for MSU leading the team with 12.7 points.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
