STARKVILLE – For the first time in school history, Mississippi State will make its fourth consecutive bowl appearance.

The Bulldogs accepted a bid to the 55th AutoZone Liberty Bowl to take on Rice at 3p.m. Dec. 31, 2013 in Memphis, Tenn.

It is MSU’s 17th bowl selection and fourth appearance in the Liberty Bowl. The Bulldogs are 9-7 all-time in bowls and 2-1 in the Liberty Bowl. State last appeared in the Liberty Bowl in 2007 defeating Central Florida 10-3 under Sylvester Croom.

Dan Mullen has led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record in the postseason winning the 2011 Gator Bowl over Michigan 52-14, the 2011 Music City Bowl 23-17 over Wake Forest before losing the 2013 Gator Bowl 30-24 to Northwestern.

Mississippi State begins their bowl preparations on Friday.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
