Mississippi State junior center Martha Alwal was named the SEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week following her standout performance against Southern Miss on Saturday.
Alwal played all 40 minutes leading the team with 19 points and finishing one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. The 6-foot-4 native of Worthington, Minn., shot 66.7-percent from the field and was 3-of-5 from the free throw line in a 71-61 win over the Golden Eagles.
Alwal scored 12 points in the first half on 5-of-6 shooting.
She currently leads the Bulldogs with 15.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and tops the conference with 2.7 blocks per game.
MSU will travel to Fargo, N.D., for the first time in school history on Tuesday to take on North Dakota State at 7 p.m.
