Redshirt freshman wing Dre Applewhite has decided to transfer from Mississippi State effective immediately.
The 6-foot-5, 217-pounder from Memphis had appeared in all 12 games for the Bulldogs earning six starts.
“Transfers have unfortunately become common in college basketball,” MSU head coach Rick Ray stated in a release from the university. “We wish Dre well.”
Applewhite was averaging 5.5 points per game and 3.9 rebounds. He sat out during the 2012-13 season due to a torn ACL.
Applewhite was a three-star signee in Ray’s initial signing class playing for his father at Central High School. As a senior, Applewhite averaged 21.3 points and 11.1 rebounds leading Central into the Class 3A state title game. Originally, he had offers from Middle Tennessee State and Missouri State.
