Mississippi State will hold its annual first pitch banquet on Feb. 1 at 11:30 a.m. in the Palmeiro Center on campus.

13-year MLB pitching standout Roy Oswalt will be the keynote speaker at the event introducing the 2014 edition of the Diamond Dogs. Oswalt, a Weir native, signed with MSU following his sophomore season at Holmes Community College in 1996 but was drafted by the Houston Astros.

Oswalt uses the Bulldogs facilities to train during the offseason.

Head coach John Cohen will emcee the event which will feature a hamburger/ hot dog lunch and autograph session with the players. Tickets are $12 and are available through the MSU ticket office and will be $17 at the door.

A seven-inning intersquad scrimmage at 2:15 p.m. will cap off the day’s events.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
