Welcome to Game 1 of the basketball version of the Egg Bowl with the Bulldogs hosting Ole Miss. MSU will be wearing its grey uniforms for today’s game while the Rebels are decked out in navy. Doesn’t appear to be a real big crowd yet and may not be with school still being out. I do know that it’s a beautiful day here in Starkville in the high 50’s (which is a drastic change from what I saw in Detroit Thursday afternoon).

De’Runnya Wilson is in sweats as the Bulldogs are going through warm-ups. He’s sporting his high school state championship rings as well.

Starting Lineups:

Mississippi State: 10-4, 0-1

1- Fred Thomas, G, 6-5, 191, So.

3- Colin Borchert, F, 6-8, 231, Sr.

15- I.J. Ready, G, 5-11, 170, Fr.

20- Gavin Ware, C, 6-9, 270, So.

32- Craig Sword, G, 6-3, 189, So.

Ole Miss: 10-4, 1-0

3- Derrick Millinghaus, G, 5-10, 172, So.

4- Demarco Cox, C, 6-8, 276, Jr.

10- Ladarius White, G, 6-6, 211, Jr.

32- Jarvis Summers, G, 6-3, 186, Jr.

34- Aaron Jones, F, 6-9, 220, Jr.

During warm-ups there were nine players dressed for MSU and seven in sweats rebounding.

Remember that today’s game is televised on ESPNU.

Demarco Cox is the cousin of former MSU standout and current Eagles defensive lineman Fletcher Cox.

Ware has his right hand taped up.

About ready to tip this one off. The crowd has filled in some but still a good many empty seats. I’ve got my partner in crime Parrish Alford alongside for this one.

Bulldogs also sporting grey D. Rose adidas shoes for this one.

MSU leads the SEC in steals and get one on the Rebels first trip down the floor.

15:54 9-5 UM Millinghaus 6 points

All of Ole Miss’ points so far have come on 3-pointers.

12:52 12-7 UM Millinghaus 6 points

A 3-pointer by Borchert, a block and steal by Thomas and a layup by Roquez Johnson has tied this one up.

Borchert buries his third 3-pointer to give MSU the lead.

11:22 15-12 MSU Borchert 11 points.

Thomas drains a 3-pointer and sticks his tongue out bouncing back down the floor.

7:41 24-22 MSU Borchert 11 points

Trivia question was who is MSU’s all-time winningest coach? Answer was Rick Stansbury. The crowd cheered.

3:55 33-26 MSU Borchert 11 points

An Ole Miss player nearly took out the entire Daily Journal staff covering this game.

A big time slam by Johnson just before the half.

Ready with a steal and layup at the buzzer gives MSU a seven point lead at halftime.

Official statistics

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
