Memorial Gymnasium (John Russell/Vanderbilt University)

I just arrived in Nashville for my first trip inside Memorial Gymnasium. It’s a really cool place if you haven’t been. Vanderbilt is the fourth school that I have now completed the trifecta at by covering all three major sports on the road. I’d like to give a thumb’s up to the Commodores for giving me my own suite to cover the game from and also for serving tater tots for pregame meal.¬†Both teams¬†are currently on the floor for shoot around. It appears that I am the only MSU media contingent here so stay tuned throughout the duration. Also remember that today’s game will be televised on FSN.

Vandy’s got a full drum kit in its band. The kid playing doesn’t look too much like a rock star but looks can be deceiving sometimes.

Starting lineups:

Mississippi State: 13-7, 3-4

1- Fred Thomas, G, 6-5, 206, So.

3- Colin Borchert, F, 6-8, 231, Sr.

15- I.J. Ready, G, 5-11, 170, Fr.

20- Gavin Ware, F, 6-9, 268, So.

32- Craig Sword, G, 6-3, 194, So.

Vanderbilt: 11-8, 3-4

0- Rod Odom, F, 6-9, 212, Sr.

11- Kyle Fuller, G, 6-1, 188, Sr.

24- Dai-Jon Parker, G, 6-3, 190, Jr.

30- Damian Jones, C, 6-10, 235, Fr.

35- James Siakam, F, 6-7, 215, RJr.

Plenty of good seats still available as we get set for tipoff.

Undertaker entrance music for MSU.

Two turnovers – one on each end – to start this one.

18:39 2-0 VU Jones 2 points

Thomas buries a 3-pointer to put MSU up by that margin.

15:18 7-2 MSU Thomas 7 points

Vandy ends an 8-0 run by Thomas.

Vandy has scored seven straight to take the lead.

Thomas scores the first 10 for MSU before Borchert gets in on the action.

10:53 12-9 MSU Thomas 10 points

We’re at the 9:00 mark and MSU hasn’t fouled.

7:40 14-14 Thomas 10 points

Alley oop from Ready to Ware from 3-point range.

Vandy answers with an alley oop of its own.

MSU whistled for its first foul at the 5:22 mark. Bulldogs have eight turnovers leading to 13 Vandy points.

The Commodore mascot has a cowbell.

Bulldogs are getting their share of calls from the official but killing themselves with dumb turnovers.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
