Live from the Hump

Humphrey Coliseum

Humphrey Coliseum

I’ve arrived at Humphrey Coliseum for today’s game against Kentucky. The coliseum is filling up pretty well but it’s nowhere near the Kentucky crowds of years past where you had to arrive a few hours before the game just to have a chance at a seat or parking spot. It’s supposed to be a white out today but doesn’t look like that message was heard by many in the crowd. Today’s game is on SEC-TV and locally on WCBI. It’s also junior day here on campus but I don’t have to cover that anymore. If today’s game gets boring I also have the newly printed baseball media guide here to entertain me.

I’ll be here for the duration so stay tuned…

MSU point guard I.J. Ready will miss today’s game with the flu.

Former American Idol contestant and current Miss MSU Jasmine Murray from my hometown of Columbus just sang a beautiful National Anthem.

MSU has Flint Tropics star/ owner Jackie Moon in its student section today…or at least his stunt double.

UK begins the game on a 6-0 start. MSU begins 0 of 5 from the field.

MSU is on the board with a free throw from Roquez Johnson nearly four minutes into the game.

14:33 9-7 UK Young 7 points

Bulldogs tie the game on a reverse layup by Bloodman.

13:45 9-9 Young 7 points

There are reports that 2015 running back Kentavious Thomas has committed to Mississippi State. Thomas is a 5-foot-10, 207-pounder from of Milledgeville, Ga.

Sword with a rim-rocking dunk to give MSU the 11-9 lead.

11:01 11-11 Young 7 points

7:33 19-17 UK Young 7 points

3:38 25-21 UK Young 7 points

So the men’s basketball team chose Michael Jackson over Michael Jordan on the video board. Hmm…

De’Runnya Wilson checks into the game.

Dak Prescott getting a nice ovation from the crowd after being shown on the video board. Also saw former MSU reliever Caleb Reed during halftime.

Bloodman goes down right here in front of us. He’s in a lot of pain. Trainer Scotty Johnson checking out his left leg but he’s able to walk off the court under his own power.

19:07 32-26 UK Randle 8 points

Aaron Harrison drains a 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring.

Borchert buries a 3-pointer pulling MSU within six.

Thomas just attempted a hook shot over Cauley-Stien. Needless to say it didn’t go well for the flat-topped one.

15:50 39-31 UK Randle 12 points

Bloodman back on the court with a pad on his left knee.

Johnson and Thomas took each other out trying to get back down court.

Great drive and dish by Bloodman to Johnson for the lay in.

11:50 46-39 UK Randle 12 points

MSU has already matched its made field goal total from the first half (7).

I’ve never seen John Calipari have to coach a team so hard before.

The crowd is very unhappy with the officiating here today.

9:39 53-41 UK Randle 14 points

Bloodman is playing a heck of a game in place of Ready.

I just saw Randle grab Sword by the hips and sling him to the floor in front of an official. No call made.

Andrew Harrison fouls out with 5:31 to go.

Borchert picks up his fourth foul with 4:59 to go.

Borchert fouls out with 38.2 left. Things are starting to get chippy now.

Official statistics

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
