STARKVILLE – On the eve of her Senior Night game against No. 12 Kentucky, Mississippi State’s Candace Foster  was named to the SEC Community Service Team for the second-straight year.

The Jackson, Miss., native has been an active part of the community through Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the M-Club student-athlete service organization during her four years on campus.

“I am extremely honored to receive this award for the second-straight year,” Foster said. “I have always looked for opportunities to give back to the fans who have supported us during my career at Mississippi State.”

Last fall, Foster and her teammates volunteered during Starkville’s annual Travis Outlaw Day. She has also been involved in Mississippi’s Let’s Go Walking initiative in addition to serving as a judge during the West Oktibbeha Elementary Talent Show.

Foster has also volunteered at Starkville’s food pantry and the Palmer Home for Children, and she is a frequent visitor at local schools to read to students and participate along with other MSU student-athletes in Bully’s Book Blitz and Breakfast of Champions.

“This award is a reflection of who Candace is. She is a giver, which makes her a great Bulldog,” head coach Vic Schaefer said. “Her character is unquestioned, and I appreciate the opportunity to be around her the last two years.”

Foster has also assisted with the M-Club’s annual bake sale and toy distribution project. As part of MSU’s FCA, she joined teammate Savannah Carter and other student-athletes in carrying a cross through Oktibbeha County in 2013.

Prior to Thursday’s 7p.m. game against the Wildcats, Mississippi State will honor Foster and fellow senior Katia May. Tickets for the contest are $5 for adults and free for youth high school age and under.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
