For the second time in three weeks Mississippi State’s Ross Mitchell was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week.

The junior southpaw made his second career start Saturday against Georgia and tossed a complete game victory improving to 3-1 on the year and 19-1 overall. Mitchell gave up only one run while scattering four hits, four walks and striking out five.

Mitchell was able to snap UGA’s 11-game winning streak and also spark MSU’s first series win in Athens since 1997. The Smyrna, Tenn., native has made eight appearances this year sporting a 1.50 earned run average, 22 strikeouts and 11 walks in 36 innings.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.

Looks as though the Diamond Dogs are hitting their stride. Pitching, hitting and winning is contagious. Keep it going.
