More honors arrived for Mississippi State’s Martha Alwal on Tuesday.
After earning All-SEC and SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors two weeks ago, Alwal was picked as a first team All-SEC member by the Associated Press.
“I am overwhelmed and honored to be selected as a first team All-SEC from the Associated Press,” Alwal said in a release. “I have to share this award with my teammates and coaches because they have been so supportive of me and are always pushing me to get better every day. There are some great players in this league, so to be voted to the first team is a tremendous honor.”
The 6-foot-4 junior center averaged a career-best 15.3 points and shot 50.3-percent from the field which ranked third in the conference. Alwal also finished third with 8.7 rebounds per game and second in blocks with 2.6.
Alwal notched 10 double-doubles during the year and has 29 for her career. She joined the 1,000 point club this season and also surpassed the school record for career blocks with 243.
The Worthington, Minn., native has an opportunity to increase those statistics as the Bulldogs enter postseason play in the WNIT on Thursday.
