Bulldogs in the NBA

Mississippi State currently has two former players in the NBA as well as a host of other players who either signed with the Bulldogs or are in the NBA Developmental League or WNBA. Each week the Daily Journal will have an update on these players and their careers in professional basketball.

Dee BostDee Bost

Height/ Weight: 6-2, 176

Position: Guard

Team: Idaho Stampede (D-League)

Lettered at MSU: 2009-12

2013-14 stats: 50 games, 40.5 minutes, 15.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 8.4 assists, 2.1 steals, 0.2 blocks

Info: Bost has had two stints in the Portland Trail Blazers camp and spent last season playing in Montenegro. The Bulldogs all-time assists leader was named to the NBA Developmental League All-Star game this season as a replacement for Jarvis Varnado. Bost scored four points, had seven assists, two rebounds and a steal in 19 minutes in the D-League All-Star game.

Monta EllisMonta Ellis

Height/ Weight: 6-3, 185

Position: Guard

Team: Dallas Mavericks

Signed with MSU: 2005

2013-14 stats: 82 games, 36.9 minutes, 19.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.7 steals, 0.3 blocks

Info: The former Lanier High School standout signed with the Bulldogs before being selected in the second round (40th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft. Ellis played for the Golden State Warriors from 2005-12 before being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks last year. He signed a three-year contract worth over $25 million with the Dallas Mavericks prior to this season.

Arnett MoultrieArnett Moultrie

Height/ Weight: 6-11, 249

Position: Forward

Team: Philadelphia 76ers

Lettered at MSU: 2012

2013-14 stats: 12 games, 15.6 minutes, 3.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.7 steals, 0.3 blocks

Info: The former first round draft pick (27th overall) has split time between the 76ers and the Delaware 87ers of the NBA D-League this season. Moultrie played in eight games in the D-League averaging 10.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 28.2 minutes. He is in his second season in the NBA after spending two years in Starkville following his transfer from UTEP.

Travis OutlawTravis Outlaw

Height/ Weight: 6-9, 207

Position: Small forward/ Power forward

Team: Sacramento Kings

Signed with MSU: 2003

2013-14 stats: 63 games, 16.9 minutes, 5.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.3 blocks

Info: The former Starkville High School standout signed with the Bulldogs before being selected in the first round (23rd overall) by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2003 Draft. Outlaw played with the Blazers until 2010 when he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He signed a $35 million deal with the New Jersey Nets in 2010 and was claimed off waivers by the Sacramento Kings in 2011.

Grizzlies 76ers BasketballJarvis Varnado

Height/ Weight: 6-9, 230

Position: Forward/ Center

Team: Philadelphia 76ers

Lettered at MSU: 2007-10

2013-14 stats: 24 games, 14.1 minutes, 4.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.4 steals, 1.2 blocks

Info: The NCAA’s all-time leading shot blocker is in his fourth season in professional basketball. Varnado was drafted in the second round (41st) overall by the Miami Heat in 2010. “Swat” spent two years overseas before returning to the NBA last year with the Boston Celtics and winning a ring with the Heat. He has played for the Chicago Bulls and the 76ers as well as the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Iowa Energy of the NBA D-League this season.

Tan WhiteTan White

Height/ Weight: 5-7, 154

Position: Guard

Team: Minnesota Lynx (WNBA)

Lettered at MSU: 2002-05

2013 stats: 22 games, 25 minutes, 9.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.6 steals, 0.3 blocks

Info: Tupelo native Tan White concluded her ninth season in the WNBA after being picked second overall in the 2005 Draft by the Indiana Fever. White spent four seasons with the Fever and has spent the last five with the Connecticut Sun. She has appeared in 286 WNBA games averaging 8.5 points and shooting 37.3-percent from the field and 31.9-percent from 3-point range.
