Mississippi State will make its 34th NCAA Regional appearance in the Lafayette Regional.

The Bulldogs are the No. 2 seed and will take on third-seeded San Diego State at 1 p.m. Friday. Jackson State will be the fourth-seed in the Regional along with host Louisiana-Lafayette.

MSU is 92-74 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 68-39 in NCAA Regionals. The Diamond Dogs claimed 11 Regional titles including last year’s Starkville Regional victory.

State has never faced any of the three opponents at the Lafayette Regional in postseason.

Friday will be the first meeting between the Bulldogs and Aztecs. Mississippi State is 1-1 against Louisiana-Lafayette (then known as Southwestern Louisiana) in 1991 and 50-8 versus Jackson State.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
