Former Michigan kicker is “Starkville Bound”

It is no secret that Mississippi State struggled in the field goal department last season and past spring.

The Bulldogs made only 10 of their 21 field goal attempts in 2013.

But help could be on the way in the form of former Michigan kicker J.J. McGrath.

McGrath tweeted Thursday that he was “Starkville Bound! #HailState”. A week ago the Macomb, Mich., native announced that he was “Officially heading down to Starkville to join the Mississippi State Bulldogs. #HailState.”

McGrath was a preferred walk-on for the Wolverines last season but did not kick in a game. He is eligible to play immediately.

The left-footer made 7-of-11 field goals at Lutheran North as a high school senior including 57, 54 and 52-yarders.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.

Hoping you will feel like home here and enjoy southern hsopitality; also that you and the rest of the MSU bulldog team can gel together for a run at the west, hotlanta and the new playoff championship. We will be watching and pulling for you guys this fall. #hailstate
