Mississippi State junior reliever Jacob Lindgren has been named as a semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Award, given annually to the breakout player in college baseball.
Lindgren is 6-1 on the mound with three saves, a 0.88 earned run average, 93 strikeouts and 21 walks in 51 innings of work. He leads the country in strikeouts among relief pitchers and has the highest strikeout margin per nine innings of any hurler at 16.4.
The Bay St. Louis native had a 0.55 ERA in Southeastern Conference this season which he lowered from 5.20 in 2013.
Lindgren has not allowed an earned run in his last 21 1/3 innings and was a first team All-SEC selection.
The Gregg Olson Award is named for the former Auburn and MLB closer and will be awarded at the College World Series. Finalists will be named on June 6.
