Mississippi State signee Chase Vallot was selected 40th overall by the Kansas City Royals.

The catcher from St. Thomas More (La.) High School hit .545 with 15 doubles, 13 home runs and 62 runs batted in during 36 games as a senior this past spring.

Vallot, a six-foot, 210-pounder, hit .365 with 12 homers as a junior and committed to the Bulldogs last April.

The 17-year old has until July 18 to reach an agreement and sign with the Royals. Kansas City’s allotment for the 40th slot is $1,420,800.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
