On Thursday the New York Yankees selected Mississippi State junior Jacob Lindgren in the second round of the MLB Draft.
The following day the Bronx Bombers went back to the Bulldogs bullpen and picked junior closer Jonathan Holder in the sixth round (182nd overall).
Holder pitched in 23 games for MSU this past season going 7-1 and leading the team with seven saves. He finished with a 2.22 earned run average with 71 strikeouts and nine walks in 52.2 innings of work.
The Gulfport native is State’s all-time saves leader closing out 37 games during his three-year career. In 2012, Holder set the school’s single-season saves record with 21. He was a consensus Freshman All-American in 2012 and All-American in 2013.
