Former Wheeler standout and Mississippi State junior right-hander Brandon Woodruff was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the MLB Draft on Saturday.

Woodruff was the 326th overall selection and was the third Bulldog pitcher picked from its junior class.

The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder appeared in 15 games including six starts this spring. Woodruff went 1-3 with a 6.75 earned run average, 29 strikeouts and 25 walks in 37.1 innings.

For his career, Woodruff made 34 mound appearances and 18 starts going 3-6 with a 4.70 ERA and 81 strikeouts over 90 innings. He also played 13 games in the outfield as a freshman hitting .105 with an RBI.

Woodruff was a fifth-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers out of high school. He has until July 18 to sign with the Brewers or return for his senior season in Starkville.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
