The honors keep piling in for Mississippi State’s Jacob Lindgren.

The junior left-handed pitcher was tabbed as a first team All-American by Baseball America. Lindgren went 6-1 with three saves in 26 relief appearances leading the team in strikeouts (100) and earned run average (0.81). Opponents hit just .124 against him and he did not allow a home run in 2014.

Lindgren was a second round draft selection of the New York Yankees (55th overall) and according to Jack Curry of the YES Network, will travel to Tampa Thursday to get a physical as a precursor to signing a contract.

The Bay St. Louis native was also a first-team All-SEC selection and is a finalist for the Stopper of the Year Award and the Gregg Olson Award.

Kentucky pitcher/ designated hitter  A.J. Reed was named Baseball America’s Player of the Year.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
