Since his arrival five years ago, Dan Mullen has made it a point to sign the top in-state talent at Mississippi State.
Friday night, Mullen and the Bulldogs received a commitment from the top prospect in the Magnolia State as Bassfield four-star safety Jamal Peters made his pledge.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder is rated the No. 44 overall player in the country and the nation’s third rated safety according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings.
Peters picked MSU over offers from Alabama, Auburn, California, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisiana Tech, Louisville, LSU, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, TCU, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
As a junior last season, Peters tallied 72 tackles, nine for loss, five sacks and two fumble recoveries for the Yellow Jackets. Peters led Bassfield to a 15-1 record and a Class 2A State Championship.
Peters is the Bulldogs 13th in-state commitment for 2015 and its highest rated overall in the class.
