Mississippi State suffered its first casualty of the fall as wide receiver Shelby Christy was lost for the season.

Coach Dan Mullen confirmed Friday that the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder from Geismar, La., tore the ACL in his right knee and will not play this fall.

“He just planted on his foot and the knee just kind of gave way so he’s going to be out for the season,” Mullen said.

Christy redshirted his initial season in Starkville in 2013 after signing as a three-star prospect. He caught 39 passes for 663 yards and five touchdowns during his senior season at Dutchtown High School.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.

Hate that for the kid. Get well, good luck with rehab and take a medical redshirt and we will see you back and better than ever.
