The Southeastern Conference released its men’s basketball schedule Friday afternoon and has Mississippi State opening the league slate at home against Tennessee on Jan. 7 on the SEC Network.

The Bulldogs will play a dozen games on the SEC Network, four times on Fox Sports Net, once on ESPNU and another game on either ESPN or ESPN2.

MSU meets Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Ole Miss twice in home-and-home action this season. The Bulldogs face the rival Rebels in Oxford on Jan. 28 on the SEC Network with the return game in Starkville on Feb. 19 on ESPN or ESPN2.

The Bulldogs welcome Georgia, LSU, Alabama and Kentucky to Humphrey Coliseum and make road treks to Texas A&M, Florida, Auburn, South Carolina.

My hope is that by increasing our non-conference strength of schedule that it will prepare us to have more success in the SEC,” said MSU coach Rick Ray. “Our SEC schedule is challenging, but any schedule in a power conference is going to be challenging. We now have experienced players and depth which bodes well for us in our endeavors to climb the SEC ladder.”

State opens with a Nov. 6 exhibition game against Delta State and tips the season Nov. 16 hosting Western Carolina at 5:30 p.m.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
