Five Mississippi State players were selected to the All-SEC team by the league’s coaches.

Sophomore defensive lineman Chris Jones and junior linebacker Benardrick McKinney were picked to the second team while senior wide receiver Jameon Lewis, junior quarterback Dak Prescott and senior cornerback Jamerson Love were added to the third team.

Jones appeared in all 13 games for the Bulldogs last season and made three starts as a true freshman. The 6-foot-5, 308-pounder from Houston made 32 tackles including seven tackles for loss and three sacks.

McKinney led the Bulldogs in tackles and sacks and started all 13 games last fall. The 6-foot-5, 249-pounder from Tunica recorded 71 stops including seven for loss, 3.5 sacks and recovered two fumbles.

Lewis paced the MSU receiving corps with 64 catches for 923 yards and five touchdowns. The 5-foot-9, 187-pounder from Tylertown also rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns and threw three scores as well.

Prescott led the team in both rushing and passing last year and went 4-3 as a starter. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound signal caller completed 58.4-percent of his passes for 1,960 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions while also carrying 134 times for 829 yards and 13 more scores.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
