Preston Smith has been crowned as the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week for the third consecutive week. It is the first time in the history of the league for a defensive lineman to claim the award three straight times.
Against South Alabama, the senior defensive end made a career-high two sacks, forced a fumble and also blocked a field goal.
Smith has nine stops on the year with three for loss, two sacks, two blocked field goals, one forced fumble and two interceptions – one of which he returned for a 21-yard touchdown.
The last consecutive three-time winner of an SEC award was former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel claiming the Freshman of the Week honor three times in 2012.
