Tiger Stadium

Tiger Stadium

I have arrived at Tiger Stadium for tonight’s 6 p.m. tangle with the LSU Tigers. The new renovations here look really nice and should add to an already excellent game day atmosphere. It’s a pretty humid afternoon which might become worse if late afternoon showers roll in before kickoff. It’s supposed to be a 30-percent chance of rain. I’ll be up against deadline tonight but I will do my best to keep this blog updated as best I can. I’ve already checked into the hotel and will be here for the duration so stay tuned. I’m expecting a hard-hitting contest tonight and am looking forward to seeing strength on strength from both squads. Remember tonight’s game is on ESPN.

I’ve gotta go do some radio interviews but will be back soon with some updates.

The Hat is here…AKA Les Miles. So is his team.

Mississippi State has arrived as well and are walking the field. Nick James is rocking a bucket hat for the trip.

LSU will wear its traditional gold headgears, white jerseys and gold pants.

Kickoff was just changed to 6:14 p.m. and then to 6:11 p.m.

No live tiger mascot for tonight’s game. I say boooooo!!!!

MSU safety Justin Cox will miss his second straight game with a leg injury.

Mississippi State will wear the same uniforms it wore in the opener against Southern Miss. Maroon helmets with white facemasks, maroon throwback uniforms from the 90’s and white pants with the MSU logo on the leg.

Kendrick Market will start at safety for Cox.

MSU won the toss and deferred to the second half. LSU will receive to start the game.

Tupelo’s P.J. Jones with a tackle on the first play of the game.

LSU runs three times then has to punt on the opening drive.

Dak Prescott completes a 25-yard pass to Malcolm Johnson on the first play from scrimmage after taking over at midfield.

Prescott with a 9-yard touchdown pass to De’Runnya Wilson. Evan Sobiesk PAT, 7-0 MSU 10:47 1st.

Bulldogs’ defense with a goal line stand to stop four straight runs and takeover at the 2-yard line.

Josh Robinson with a 3-yard touchdown run. Sobiesk PAT, 14-0 MSU 0:45 1st. Dogs drove 98-yards in five plays in 1:21.

Small in number but MSU fans making themselves heard in an otherwise silent Tiger Stadium.

Cox has entered the game to start the second quarter. Not sure why.

Ryan Brown and Jamerson Love combine on a sack.

Preston Smith with a sack on the next play. LSU quarterback Anthony Jennings left the field holding his non-throwing arm.

Robinson is already over 100-yards with a 66-yard gainer on first down. He has five carries for 111 yards.

Sobiesk with a 27-yard field goal, 17-0 MSU 9:26 2nd. That was MSU’s first this season.

Freshman mistake by Jamoral Graham fair catching a punt at the 4-yard line.

Hey, Shaquille O’Neal is here.

Jennings returns to the game.

Colby Delahoussaye with a 30-yard field goal, 17-3 MSU 1:20 2nd.

Im about to head down to the field for postgame interviews. Behave yourselves while I’m away.

Lots of craziness in those final few minutes while I was on the field and obviously had to get my writing done before deadline.

Here’s the scoring plays while I was away…

Brandon Harris with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Dupre. Harris two-point run failed, 34-22 1:55 4th

Harris with a 30-yard touchdown to Dupre. Delahoussaye PAT, 1:27 4th

Will Redmond picks off Harris’ Hail Mary at the 1-yard to seal the win for MSU.

One of the coolest things I saw after the game was former MSU running back Derrick Milton standing behind the barricade smiling from ear to ear and embracing all of the State players that passed. Milton transferred to McNeese State.

Official Statistics

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
