Schaefer preps for practice

Mississippi State’s women’s basketball team will conduct its first practice of the fall today at 4:30 p.m.

Vic Schaefer enters his third season at the helm and returns eight letterwinners and five starters from last year’s squad. SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year Martha Alwal is back along with freshman All-SEC selection Breanna Richardson.

Schaefer also signed a top 20 recruiting class headlined by Mississippi’s all-time leading scorer Victoria Vivians.

The Bulldogs went 22-14 overall and 5-11 in SEC play last season and finished with an appearnace in the quarterfinals of the WNIT. MSU went 4-0 on a European tour over the summer playing in France and Belgium.

State will host an exhibition game against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Nov. 9 and tipoff the year Nov. 14 with the first round of the Preseason WNIT hosting Mercer.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
