Mississippi State senior center Martha Alwal was selected to the Preseason All-SEC team announced at SEC Tipoff in Charlotte, N.C. on Tuesday.

It’s a well-deserved honor for her after earning First Team All-SEC and co-defensive player of the year last season,” said MSU coach Vic Shaefer in a release. “Now she has to live up to it. The challenge for her is knowing every night the other team is going to try to shut her down.”

Alwal finished last season as a first team All-SEC selection and the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Year in addition to a spot on on the All-SEC Defensive Team.

The 6-foot-4 native of Worthington, Minn., averaged 14.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game as a junior. Alwal is the Bulldogs all-time leading shot-blocker and has recorded 31 career double-doubles.

MSU was picked to finish eighth in the conference at the SEC Tipoff by the media.
