McKinney named Butkus Award semifinalist

Mississippi State junior Benardrick McKinney was one of 15 players selected as a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker.

McKinney is the Bulldogs leading tackler with 45 stops, six for loss, three sacks, two pass deflections, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder was named a Mid-Season All-American by Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports, Sporting News, and Phil Steele.

Finalists for the Butkus Award will be announced on Nov. 24.
