Mississippi State running back Josh Robinson leads the Southeastern  Conference with 887 yards and 10 touchdowns on 121 carries. The 5-foot-9, 215-pound junior answered a few questions about his stellar year so far and the Bulldogs No. 1 ranking.

On Mississippi State being no. 1 in the inaugural College Football Playoff rankings:

“It really doesn’t matter as long as we are No. 1 at the end of the year. That is what we are working toward.”

On the difference between this year and others in his career:

“I just had to wait my turn. I had to sit behind [Vick] Ballard, and I learned a lot from him. I had to sit behind [LaDarius] Perkins, and I learned a lot from him. Now it is all coming together.”

On his ability to stay balanced:

“You have to be able to keep a low center of gravity and balance your feet. You have to work your feet throughout the summer and the spring.”

On helping younger players:

“They are picking it up pretty quick. I know how those guys feel, so I try to inspire them everyday.”

On having [Dak] Prescott in the backfield:

“I’ve been sharing the load all of my life. There is no pressure on either one of us. They have to focus on the quarterback and the running back, which makes it easier on both of us.”

On his increased yards per carry from last season:

My mindset is to get positive yards every time I touch the ball. I wouldn’t mind a first down every time I touch the ball either. I just have to keep getting positive yards and stay focused.”

On the team’s ability to respond to adversity:

“We have leaders on top of leaders. This is a veteran team, and we realize that they have guys on scholarship too. They are going to make plays. Our whole mindset is to not flinch. I have felt a special bond with this team since Texas A&M last year. We all realized that we were going to make something special happen.”

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
