STARKVILLE – Mississippi State baseball alumni weekend wrapped up Sunday at Dudy Noble Field with a 4-1 victory by Maroon against Gray. The Bulldogs’ 12th intrasquad scrimmage of the fall lasted five innings.

Maroon starter Lucas Laster pitched four innings of one-run ball, striking out two in the victory. The lefty worked around four hits, a walk and a pair of hit by pitches. Sophomore right-hander Dakota Hudson earned the save with a scoreless fifth inning, surrendering just one hit.

The victors scored four runs on only three hits thanks to six walks and two players getting hit by a pitch. The offense was led by senior infielder Seth Heck, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Junior transfer Trent Waddell reached base in all three plate appearances (two walks, hit by pitch), scoring a run and driving in one. Fellow junior Michael Smith collected two walks, an RBI and a run, while junior John Holland went 1-for-1 with a walk.

For Gray, senior Jake Vickerson reached base twice (double, hit by pitch), scoring his team’s only run thanks to an RBI single by sophomore Luke Reynolds (2-for-3) in the third.

State’s next free open scrimmage at Dudy Noble Field is tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m. CT Tuesday.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
