Mississippi State linebacker Benardrick McKinney was selected as a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award.
McKinney was one of 20 finalists announced Monday for the award given to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player. The 6-foot-5, 249-pounder from Tunica leads the Bulldogs with 50 tackles including six stops for loss, three sacks, three pass breakups, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.
McKinney is the first MSU players selected as a Bednarik Award semifinalist since Johnthan Banks in 2012.
The list will be narrowed to three finalists on Nov. 24 and the award will be presented on Dec. 11 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
