STARKVILLE – Seven different Mississippi State baseball players recorded at least one RBI for Gray in an 8-3 rout of Maroon in MSU’s 16th scrimmage of the fall Sunday afternoon. The exhibition at Dudy Noble Field lasted five innings.

Four different batters tallied multiple hits for the victors, including senior infielder Seth Heck, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and a double. Sophomore catcher Gavin Collins finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two runs and an RBI. Junior college transfers Luke Reynolds (2-for-4, RBI, run) and Michael Smith (2-for-2, two runs, walk) also had a pair of base knocks.

On the mound, senior lefty Lucas Laster earned the win in the start for Gray, striking out two in three innings of work. The lefty surrendered two runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks. Junior transfer Trent Waddell replaced Laster on the bump, striking out three in 1.1 hitless stanzas.

True freshman right-hander Jesse McCord started for Maroon, throwing two shutout innings. Offensively for Maroon, redshirt freshman Joey Swinarski finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while junior Matt Spruill earned three walks, stole a base and scored a run.

State’s next free open scrimmage at Dudy Noble Field is tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m. CT Tuesday.
