Rick Ray is off to a strong start to his 2016 recruiting class adding the commitment of four-star shooting guard D’Marcus Simonds Tuesday evening.

Simonds is a 6-foot-4, 196-pounder from Buford High School and is the No. 2 rated player in Georgia and 52nd overall prospect nationally according to 247Sports.com. He is considered the ninth-best shooting guard in the country.

Simonds chose Mississippi StateĀ over offers from Florida, Connecticut, Georgia and Georgia Tech.

As a sophomore last season, Simonds averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds and six assists per game.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
