Mississippi State senior guard Ben Beckwith has been selected as one of three finalists for the Bulsworth Trophy.

The Bulsworth Trophy is presented each season to the most outstanding football player in America that began his career as a walk-on. The award is named for former Arkansas walk-on offensive lineman Brandon Bulsworth, who was a three-year starter for the Razorbacks and an All-American in 1998.

Beckwith spent his first three years as a walk-on for the Bulldogs before receiving a scholarship prior to the 2013 season. The 6-foot-3, 306-pounder has started 19 straight games at right guard. Beckwith has graded out as a champion in all 11 games this season and leads the team with 71 pancake blocks.

The former Benton Academy standout has been named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week three times this season including this week.

Beckwith will attend the Bulsworth Trophy ceremony on Dec 8 in Sprindale, Ark., along with fellow finalists Justin Hardy of East Carolina and Mark Weisman of Iowa.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
