No. 10 Mississippi State lost its second free safety in as many weeks over the weekend. Kendrick Market ruptured his Achilles tendon after making two tackles in the first half of the Egg Bowl and will miss the Bulldogs’ bowl game.

Coach Dan Mullen confirmed Market’s injury after the game and it will likely keep him out of spring practice as well.

The 5-foot-10, 188-pounder from Batesville had started the previous two games following the indefinite suspension of Justin Cox after his arrest.

Market appeared in all 12 games this season including four starts. He concludes his junior campaign with 49 tackles (29 solo, 20 assists), 1.5 tackles for loss and one pass breakup.

Sophomores Deontay Evans and Kivon Coman were listed as Market’s backups on the depth chart for the Egg Bowl.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
