Mississippi State finished No. 7 in the College Football Playoff Poll and will make its 18th bowl appearance in the Orange Bowl in Miami.

The Bulldogs (10-2) will meet Georgia Tech for the fifth time with kickoff slated forDec. 31 at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN. The Yellow Jackets, who finished 12th in the CFP poll, went 10-3 during the regular season and lost 37-35 to Florida State in the ACC Championship game on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets are 4-0 against MSU including a 42-31 win against Dan Mullen in Starkville in 2009.

It will be the Bulldogs fifth consecutive bowl appearance under Mullen, going 3-1 in those outings. His three bowl victories are the most by any State head coach.

The Bulldogs are 10-7 all-time in bowls. Mississippi State prevailed 44-7 against Rice in the Liberty Bowl last year.

It will be the Bulldogs third time in the Orange Bowl owning a 1-1 record. MSU’s last trip to the Orange Bowl was a 14-7 win over Georgetown in 1941.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
