Mississippi State junior quarterback Dak Prescott was not among the finalists invited to New York by the Heisman Trophy Trust.

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper are the three finalists for the award.

Prescott was considered a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy at one point this season but saw his stock plummet after tossing eight interceptions over a five-game span.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder finished the regular season with 2,996 yards passing, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and 939 rushing yards and 13 more scores.

Prescott did bring home the Conorly Trophy, presented each year to the most outstanding collegiate football player in Mississippi.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
