Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen received two Coach of the Year awards on Monday. The sixth-year head coach learned that he was a finalist for the Maxwell Football Club Collegiate Coach of the Year Award the following day.

Mullen joins his former mentor Urban Meyer of Ohio State and Oregon’s Mark Helfrich as finalists for the honor which will be announced on Dec. 22.

The Bulldogs have shattered 64 records during Mullen’s tenure including 22 single-season records this fall. MSU will make its fifth straight bowl appearance in the Orange Bowl later this month.

The Bulldogs enjoyed 10-2 regular season and a five-week stint at No. 1 this season.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
