Louisiana Tech defensive coordinator Manny Diaz is expected to interview for the same position at Mississippi State, according to a report by the Clarion Ledger.
Diaz served on Dan Mullen‘s staff as defensive coordinator in 2010 before leaving for Texas the following year. While at MSU, Diaz’s defense ranked 17th nationally in both rushing defense (214.9) and tackles for loss (7.0 per game). It also finished 22nd in turnovers (28) and scoring defense (19.9 ppg).
The 40-year old has served as defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee from 2006-09, Texas (2011-13) and Louisiana Tech this past fall. Louisiana Tech ranks 34th in total defense this year while State sits 85th.
The position was vacated by Geoff Collins on Dec. 16, 2014. Cornerbacks coach Deshea Townsend called the defensive plays on an interim basis in the Orange Bowl and surrendered 577 yards in a 49-34 loss to Georgia Tech.
