Mississippi State junior linebacker Benardrick McKinney will forgo his final season in Starkville and enter the NFL Draft according to Rand Getlin, an NFL insider for Yahoo! Sports.

McKinney finished his second straight season as the Bulldogs leading tackler concluding 2014 with 71 stops. The Tunica native also made eight tackles for loss, three sacks, four pass deflections, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries.

The 6-foot-5, 249-pounder is rated the No. 24 draft prospect by CBS Sports and a projected first round selection.

Should McKinney declare for the draft, he would be the second MSU underclassman to do so joining running back Josh Robinson.

The university plans to have a formal announcement when McKinney makes his decision.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
