Butler awarded a scholarship

Walk-on guard Isaiah Butler was placed on scholarship for the spring semester.

The 6-foot-2 senior from Brandon has appeared in five games this season logging 14 minutes and missed his only shot attempt. Butler was a member of both the men’s and women’s practice squads during his first three years of college.

“It was really a touching moment in our locker room when I told him about being on scholarship,” said MSU coach Rick Ray. “The guys in that room know how much he’s sacrificed and how much he cares about the basketball team. It was rewarding. To me, this is what you get into this business to do – help young men out. That was a moment you could see it come to fruition and I’m happy for him.”

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
