The honors continue to mount for Mississippi State’s Victoria Vivians.
A day after being named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week, the Carthage native was selected as the National Freshman of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. It is the first such honor in program history.
“This is a great honor because there are so many great freshmen players across the nation,” Vivians said. “I appreciate the USBWA for selecting me, but I have to share this honor with my teammates and coaches because it wouldn’t be possible with their support.”
Vivians averaged 24.5 points last week while shooting 45.7 percent from the field. She set a freshman single-game school record scoring 39 points in a double-overtime loss at Kentucky.
Vivians leads all SEC freshmen and the Bulldogs in scoring.
