Isaiah Butler

Mississippi State senior Isaiah Butler was selected as a member of the SEC Community Service Team for 2015.

The Brandon native is concluding his lone season with the Bulldogs after spending three years on the women’s practice squad. Butler was initially a walk-on for Rick Ray’s squad but was placed on scholarship in January.

Butler has appeared in nine games including one start this year. He has grabbed three rebounds and two steals while dishing out an assist in 26 minutes of action.

The 6-foot-2, 214-pounder volunteers with the Starkville Habitat for Humanity and traveled to Tupelo last April to help assist with tornado relief efforts. He also works with youth groups in Brandon and Jackson and aides with basketball clinics on campus and at the YMCA.

Butler is also part of a reading group at Sudduth Elementary School.

Here is a feature story I wrote on Butler prior to Saturday’s senior day.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
