Last week is one that Mississippi State would like to forget. Three football players were involved in a spring break brawl in Panama City, Fla., and two others spent time behind bars.
The Clarion Ledger first reported that redshirt freshman offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins was arrested Thursday on a warrant for simple assault.
Jenkins joins teammate De’Runnya Wilson, who was arrested Friday for second degree possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
“We have very high standards and expectations for all of our student-athletes,” MSU coach Dan Mullen said in a statement. “Any time an accusation is made against one of our student-athletes, we investigate fully and not jump to any conclusions.”
Jenkins, of Clarksdale, was booked and released from the Oktibbeha County Jail on bond Thursday.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pounder redshirted his true freshman season this past fall.
The Bulldogs begin spring practice on Wednesday.
