The after affects of Rick Ray‘s firing are already being felt on the recruiting trail for Mississippi State.

The crown jewel of the Bulldogs 2016 class, four-star prospect D’Marcus Simonds, announced he has reopened his recruitment just hours after Ray was let go.

Simonds stated on his Twitter account that “I have decided to reopen my recruitment. I had previously decided to commit to Mississippi State because of my relationship with Coach Ray and the Staff. I love the campus and Mississippi State is a great place to be and this is just an Unfortunate Series of events.”

The 6-foot-4, 196-pounder from Buford, Ga., is considered the nation’s No. 10 shooting guard.

Simonds’ departure leaves Quitman’s Darius Hicks as MSU’s lone 2016 commitment.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
