Mississippi State held its seventh practice of the spring on Thursday afternoon and will hold its first scrimmage inside Davis Wade Stadium Friday at 10:15 a.m. That’s 30 minutes later than previously scheduled.

There was lots of goal line work during today’s practice and all of the situations in my notes came from inside the 10-yard line.

Junior wide receiver De’Runnya Wilson went through all of the drills but did not participate in the scrimmage.

There were no new additions to the injury pit.

During pass skeleton, sophomore cornerback Jamoral Graham broke up a pass from redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Fitzgerald while in coverage of redshirt freshman running back Aeris Williams.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Elijah Staley connected with sophomore tight end B.J. Hammond for a touchdown.

Senior quarterback Dak Prescott hit sophomore wide receiver Donald Gray for a touchdown. Gray made a leaping grab and got one foot down in the right corner of the end zone.

Prescott connected with senior wide receiver Joe Morrow for a touchdown on the final play of pass skeleton.

Former linebacker Matthew Wells was on hand for practice.

During the scrimmage, Prescott was picked off by junior linebacker Richie Brown in the end zone.

I know you’ll be surprised by this but a draw up the middle with junior running back Brandon Holloway inside the 5-yard line didn’t work.

Aeris Williams had a 7-yard touchdown run.

Redshirt freshman safety Zak Neary picked off redshirt freshman quarterback Nate Gieb in the end zone. Speaking of which, we were provided with an updated roster today and Gieb has been the third string quarterback all spring while redshirt freshman Josiah Phillips has made the move to linebacker. He’s been the #10 I’ve been referring to.

Junior cornerback Tolando Cleveland made 1-on-1 a touchdown saving tackle on junior tight end Gus Walley.

Prescott scored on a 10-yard draw straight up the gut.

Prescott completed a jump pass touchdown to senior tight end Darrion Hutcherson.

Prescott hit Gray again for a 6-yard touchdown.

Prescott had a shovel pass touchdown to Walley.

Fitzgerald had a 10-yard touchdown pass to Hammond.

Fitzgerald also tossed a 10-yard touchdown to sophomore wide receiver Gabe Myles.

Junior defensive tackle Nick James gobbled up Fitzgerald at the line of scrimmage on a scramble.

Fitzgerald threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to redshirt freshman Jesse Jackson.

Freshman wide receiver Malik Dear scored a 10-yard touchdown on a reverse but the play would’ve likely been called back due to freshman wideout Deshun Dixon holding on the edge.

Brothers Deshun Dixon and sophomore tight end Rashun Dixon lined up next to one another.

Prescott threw a 7-yard touchdown to Hutcherson.

Redshirt freshman Dontavian Lee went untouched for a 8-yard touchdown run.

A few plays later, Lee plowed his way over folks for a 7-yard touchdown.

Aeris Williams had a 9-yard touchdown run and dove into the end zone.

Sophomore linebacker Kelan Chairs broke up a pass by walk-on quarterback Hampton Howard.

Here is the play sequence with the first team offense and defense facing 1st-and-goal from the 2-yard line:

1st-and-goal Aeries Williams rushed for no gain.

2nd-and-goal Prescott’s pass incomplete.

3rd-and-goal Prescott sacked by junior safety Kivon Coman

4th-and-goal Prescott scored on a 3-yard run.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
