Wes Rea

Wes Rea has been a mainstay in Mississippi State’s lineup the last four years following a redshirt season.

Rea’s longevity has paid off with a solid senior year batting .309 with a team-leading five home runs and 35 runs batted in.

The first baseman from Gulfport is one of five finalists for the C Spire Ferriss Trophy awarded annually to the top college baseball player in Mississippi. Other finalists include Southern Miss senior pitcher James McMahon (a former MSU signee), Jackson State senior infielder Melvin Rodriguez, Millsaps senior pitcher/ infielder Keith Shumaker and Ole Miss senior pitcher Scott Weathersby.

The Ferriss Trophy will be presented at a luncheon at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on May 18. Ole Miss’ Auston Bousfield claimed the award last year.

The Ferriss Trophy is named after former MSU standout Dave “Boo” Ferriss.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
