Five Bulldogs earn preseason honors from Steele

Phil Steele‘s annual Preseason All-American and All-SEC teams were released Monday and featured five Mississippi State products.

Senior quarterback Dak Prescott was selected as a third team All-American and first team All-SEC selection while junior defensive tackle Chris Jones was a second team All-SEC selection and also added as a third team All-American.

Senior cornerback Will Redmond was named a fourth team All-American and a first team All-SEC pick.

Also recognized as All-SEC selections were junior wide receiver De’Runnya Wilson on the third team and senior punter Devon Bell on the fourth.

Prescott completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 3,449 yards, 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season while also adding 1,125 yards rushing and 14 scores along with two catches for 35 yards and another touchdown.

Jones made 26 tackles, 3.5 for loss, three sacks and eight quarterback hurries as a back-up defensive tackle in 2014.

Redmond appeared in 12 games as a reserve cornerback making 51 stops, three tackles for loss, three interceptions and eight pass deflections.

Wilson was the Bulldogs top receiver last fall with 47 catches for 680 yards and nine touchdowns while Bell punted 50 times for a 43.2 yard average, pinning 18 inside the red zone.
