Mississippi State’s basketball roster suffered another casualty on Tuesday as Oliver Black is the second player to transfer in as many weeks.

Black and Maurice Dunlap both left the team after one season.

Black appeared in 31 games as a true freshman last season for former coach Rick Ray including four starts. The 6-foot-9, 224-pounder from Jackson averaged 1.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 15.8 minutes a game. He scored a career-high nine points in a loss to McNeese State on Dec. 30.

Black’s departure leaves senior Johnny Zuppardo and freshmen Aric Holman and Joseph Strugg┬áto fill the power forward position. It also leaves new coach Ben Howland with a vacant scholarship.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
