Ben Howland landed the first member of his 2016 class on Saturday as four-star point guard Lamar Peters pledged his services to Mississippi State.

The 6-foot, 165-pounder from New Orleans declared his decision on Twitter stating “I’m proud to announce my commitment to Miss St university. Thank the man above. My decision and I felt like this was best for me.”

Peters is ranked the 17th best point guard in the country and No. 2 prospect in Louisiana by 247Sports.com. The 6-foot, 165-pounder chose the Bulldogs over offers from Baylor, DePaul, Gonzaga, Illinois, LSU, Richmond, South Carolina, Tulsa, Wake Forest and Wichita State.

Peters was the Class 4A Player of the Year averaging 19.8 points and five assists for back-to-back state champion Landry-Walker.

I have covered Mississippi State in some capacity since 2004 and joined the Daily Journal staff in 2013. I enjoy short walks on the beach, performing concerts in my car and watching professional wrestling.
